Welcome to our School
The children, staff and governors of Osbaldwick Primary School would like to welcome you to the school.
Our school recently expanded onto two sites which are just a few minutes walk from each other. Staggered start times to the school day ensure pupils can arrive to school on time. We average 355 pupils in fourteen classes with two classes in each year group. The Pre-school Nursery, Reception class and Years 1, 5 and 6 are located at Osbaldwick Lane with Years 2, 3 and 4 located at The Leyes.
Our Pre-School Nursery offers mornings and afternoons sessions with 15 hours free pre-school education and paid sessions thereafter.
Located close to York’s city centre we grasp opportunities to facilitate rich learning experiences for the pupils. We develop a broad curriculum, planning engaging learning challenges that inspire pupils to make the most of their talents. Our classrooms boast modern technology to further enhance the high quality learning experiences we offer our pupils. Extensive grounds allow plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning. All our early years classes from Nursery to a Year 2 have their own outside area. An allotment area, an outdoor classroom with planting areas, an environmental science wildlife area, created with the University of York, allow pupils to look after their school. Three large enclosed private playing fields are situated behind the buildings on both sites and an enclosed Multi-Use Games Area.
We offer pupils a diverse range of extra curricular clubs delivered by our staff and specialists to nurture interests, develop relationships, motivate and inspire. There are lots of sporting opportunities, through inter-competitions in team houses and festivals with local cluster schools. Music is a strength of the school. Concerts are performed by all key stages across the year. Pupils have performed on a variety of stages to different audiences; including York Minster. We also facilitate brass and woodwind peripatetic teaching during school hours with after school drumming club.
Our children’s School Council has a direct say in certain aspects of school life such as recently taking an active role in the refurbishment of the school’s library. Strong partnership work allows the school to forge links with local businesses and the University of York leading to awards for the high quality of enterprise education undertaken by the school. The school provides a venue for the York Community Church and other community groups.
The majority of our children transfer to Archbishop Holgate’s Church of England Academy at the end of Year 6. There is a very positive relationship between the two schools with plenty of opportunities for pupils in their final year at Osbaldwick Primary School to sample life at Archbishop Holgate’s School.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to visit us, we would be delighted to meet you in person so that you can see Osbaldwick Primary School for yourself.
